Future Communication Equipment Planted in Clothes
John Volakis want to make the world a hands-free. Director of the ElectroScience Laboratory, Ohio State University is working to eliminate the need for mobile hardware such as Bluetooth earphones with installing communication devices into the clothes.
“You no longer need to hold the phone in your ear,” Volakis said, as quoted from the New York Times, October 25, 2011. ”We’re going to eliminate it, and it will become part of our clothes,” he said.
Step he did was part of an effort to create ‘smart textiles’ or clothing worn but has an electronic device that can collect, store, send, and receive information in it.
In the laboratory, Volakis own focus to the delivery and receipt of information, trying to change the military clothing, hospital robes, shirts and even day-to-day becomes an antenna.
In addition to bringing the technology in science fiction films to the real world, for example, enough said through the collar if you want to talk to others, the antenna will bring in clothing for soldiers hidden communication method, wireless monitors for patients and can achieve a better signal .
Even so, Volakis and his team took at least one year to develop civilian clothes aperture for users. However, his lab succeeded in making antennas in bulletproof vests for the U.S. army.
With the vest, said Chi-Chih Chen, a researcher who developed, equipped with an antenna on the front panel and three other panels in the rear, the same as having ‘more eyes and ears’ for its users.
“We have plenty of room in our bodies. Why do not we use to put an antenna there, “said Volakis. ”Let us make sure that we will continue to get 5 bars on our communication devices. Or even if necessary, 10 bars, “he said.
